US asked to abandon fingerprinting plans
THE EU SOME AIRLINES are begging the US to abandon plans that would force airlines to collect digital fingerprints of all foreigners departing the 'Land of the Free' after August 2009.
The Bush administration wants the plan rushed into action. It claims it will only cost $3.5 billion and points out that tourists and other foreigners can't vote anyway.
The airlines and the EU, along with several other countries, claim it will cost $12.3 billion and mean that private companies will be required to enforce immigration and border security laws.
Giovanni Bisignani, director general and chief executive of the International Air Transport Association said it was daft to outsource the core government function of border control at a time that airlines around the world are fighting for their economic survival.
More than 24 foreign carriers and about eight US carriers have halted operations, gone out of business or sought bankruptcy protection and the situation is going to get worse if fuel costs continue to escalate, he said. µ

There is absolutely nothing in the USA that cannot be found elsewhere in the world. As a tourist, there is no way in hell that I'd ever step foot in the US again. There a lot of places that are better, less expensive, and above not so arrogant as to believe they have to treat not just actual visitors as criminals, but anyone flying in or near their airspace.
Sorry, I have already voted. Much though I would like to visit the USA, and at long last have the finance to do so, I won't be going there. 

And I don't think that I am the only one to have realised that this was on tourists is actually intended, terrorists were just caught in the cross-fire before Officer Plod had update training.
The US is also introducing microwave scanners at their airports. Of course this is all harmless, as police officers in the US who kept their radar guns between their legs will happily testify.

The US is also going to force every EU citizens to register at least 3 days (online_ before departure. That is a de facto introduction of visas.

Fingerprinting, registering, microwaving etc. are just the beginning. Take a look at the UK. DNA sampling will be next. No doubt.

Tourists should also be aware of the painful procedure at the US borders. Some people wait hours to enter the country. Personal property like notebook PCs are being stolen, officially, people get harassed, fingerprinted etc.. That is no way to start a vacation, or a business relationship. Do yourself and your family a big favour - go elsewhere.

Why are the people in the EU taking this shit?
Many other Bush policies have had the primary effect of benefiting his cronies. What chance that as said airlines go under there would be a Bush crony waiting to pick up it's assets on the cheap?

In polite society this is called 'industry rationalization'.
