GPL3 goes live tomorrow

Its a GNU, a Gnother GNU
Thu Jun 28 2007, 08:28
TOMORROW will be a red letter day in Open Sauce land when the Free Software Foundation will officially releases the GNU GPL version 3.

After 18 months of arguing over the nature of Open Sauce and what happens when it passes between two equidistant Black Holes, Richard Stallman's lot have finally made up their mind what the new licence will look like.

It is not clear how many will adopt the new GNU. Linus Torvalds says that Linux might adopt it depending what Sun does in its open Sauce plans.

There was some last minute tinkering after Novell signed a deal with Microsoft where both companies agreed not to sue each other over Linux code. Version 3 has made sure that companies cannot sign deals like that again.

Other clauses added in late in GPLv3 were changes to allow Apache License Compatibility. Apparently there is a big party which Open Sauces will let their hair down and will go on until their mothers pick them up at 11pm precisely.
