Dutch CEO wants to flog 'pretty useless' Iphone

Marketing, he may have heard of it

TELCO KPN boss Ad Scheepbouwer has a novel way of getting Apple to let him sell its Iphone.

When asked what he thought about the fruit-themed Jesus phone he said it was pretty useless.

Scheepbouwer said he used one for a while and found the battery ran out too fast and he didn't like the touch screen.

The Iphone didn't have much impact on KPN's business in Germany, where rival T-Mobile was Apple's exclusive carrier. Scheepbouwer pointed out that 70,000 Iphones sold since November in Germany was 'not a particularly impressive number' compared with the 700,000 net new customers he managed to flog in the last quarter.

Fair enough, but Scheepbouwer runs one of those companies who are falling over themselves to sign one of Apple's wonderful lock in contracts that will grab them in the Netherlands.

So far Apple has not indicated which of the Dutch companies will get the Iphone contract. Apparently, Steve Jobs is being wined and dined by Scheepbouwer and his ilk but is not likely to jump into bed with anyone who is prepared to go on record with views that Apple is not going to like, we fear.

In holland you can tie a phone to a contract, but the law stipulates that after 1 year they must unlock phones on request of the customer, at no cost, which half the time means they don't bother sim-locking them in the first place I understand.
