APPLE HAS BITTEN the bullet and produced a version of its iPod digital music player that sports a PC version of Musicmatch Jukebox software.

"In response to insistent demand from PC users," says Apple, "the world's best MP3 player now does Windows." it tumpets on its web site here.

The iPod will now come in 5GB, 10GB and 20GB versions and connect to a Mac or PC through a Firewire connection. The new pods will be available in August.

At the MacWorld Expo and Conference in New York, Apple head pip Steve Jobs, also unveiled a new iMac computer with a 17-inch flat-panel display and a DVD-burner. The new iMac is expected to sell for around $2000 and will be available in the US in a couple of weeks. By the time it gets to the UK, we expect the price will be around £2000, as is usual.

"Having this gorgeous 17-inch flat screen floating in mid-air right in front of you is simply breathtaking," oozed Jobs. "There's nothing like it in the PC world," he jibed. µ
