Negreponte pipped at post, but cost high
Wed Dec 06 2006, 22:26
TEN DAYS after Nicholas Negreponte delivered the first samples of the Quanta XO computer to Brazil, Intel has trumped it.

According to chip journalist Mario Nagano, Intel said at its developer forum in Sao Paolo that it will make and ship two flavours in Q1 next year, both made by system integrators in Brazil.

The price, however could be as much as $400 a pop. The configs include 900MHz Celeron Ms with 256MB of memory or more, a seven inch or eight inch LCD display, sound, two USB slots, and an Ethernet thingie. Wi-fi and speakers will be included in the price.

The Brazilian government will be given 800 units to test in the field. Extra storage will plug into USB ports. There's more, here. There's pix of the Classmate here. Clock on galeria de fotos. µ
