Sultan of Brunei: An apology

He's there, but you have to hunt for him
Tue Jul 22 2003, 10:57
YESTERDAY WE incorrectly reported that Mr Sultan of Brunei was not on the Forbes' list of the wealthiest creatures in the universe.

We erred. Mr Sultan is on a Forbes list of wealthy individuals, under the heading of Kings, Queens and Despots.

We failed to notice this because although Forbes formerly had a list of Kings, Queens and Despots, that category disappeared for a couple of years and has now returned.

All you need to go is click on the page for billionaires, then click on the pic with Kings, Queens and Despots.

You then see kings, queens and despots to your heart's discontent. Forbes reckons Fidel Castro is worth $110 million.

Mr Sultan is worth $11 billion or more, Hans Adam II of fairy tale principality Lichtenstein is worth $2 billion. Queen Elizabeth of Hangover isn't worth very much these days. Yassar Arafat is worth millions.

Unfortunately, times aren't as good as they've been in Brunei, as this other older article shows. µ
