BACs delays 400,000 people's salaries

Nothing for the weekend
Friday, 30 March 2007, 09:38
A GLITCH IN the UK's BACS system means that nearly 400,000 people will not get paid today.

While the Banks say that they will honour any direct debits and everything will be back to normal by Monday, it is not clear how the glitch happened.

Industry association APACS said that there was no pattern to the glitch and that any company that has been affected by the problem should be making their employees aware of it.

According to the Beeb, anyone affected by the fault will be refunded charges should they go overdrawn or breach their overdraft limit as a result of the problem, the group added.

If they need cash for the weekend or to get a round in this evening they will have to go to the bank and take the cash out manually, APACs advises. ยต
