Ebay blocks virtual game sales

Thu Feb 01 2007, 07:12
ONLINE AUCTION outfit Ebay has banned auctions of virtual gold, armour and other virtual gear amassed in World of Warcraft and other online games.

Ebay said that it had decided to impose the ban due to "legal complexities" regarding ownership. According to breitbart.com, a spokesEbay said that it was too hard to work out if such virtual gear sales were legal or illegal so it was best just to ban them.

The rules do not apply to auctions of items from virtual societies such as Second Life, apparently this is because eBay does not consider Second Life a game.
