Hitachi drives into recession alone

We don't need your Yankee dollars
Thursday, 17 April 2008, 16:42

NUMBER THREE RANKED hard drive manufacturer Hitachi has withdrawn from talks with US equity firm Silver Lake about a possible injection of capital and now plans to rebuild its business alone.

According to Computerworld, Hiroaki Nakanishi, head of Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, did not rule out further investment deals down the line. "In this quickly changing market, you sometimes need to be able to spend a lot on research and equipment, to be able to grab market share," he said.

The troubled business plans to increase market share and cut costs to keep its head above the increasingly turbulent waters of the computer storage market. ยต
