Wireless users spend more time on the Web

Don't watch much TV either
Thursday, 15 March 2007, 13:59
MORE THAN A THIRD of Europeans who access the Internet while on the move contribute content to websites, says a trade body for online advertising. Research by the European Interactive Advertising Association (EIAA) shows that 33 percent of European wireless users create and share content and contribute reviews and ratings to Websites.

According to the EIAA. Wireless users typically use the Web for 17 hours each week - four hours more than they spend watching TV. In comparison, hardwired users are on average wibbling for a shade over 11 hours a week.

More than 80 percent of wireless users access news sites - considerably more that those tied to a desk. They're also more likely to use online banking and access technology sites, says the EIAA. Perhaps understandably, almost 40 percent also admit to searching for jobs wirelessly rather than in the office.

Wireless users are also more likely to use the Internet at weekends, own an MP3 player and have broadband WiFi access at home, says the report. µ
