Tomshardware pays homage to the KuFormula VF1 Plus from Sytrin and names it the Formula for Graphics Cooling. It costs only £18 and was tested on the X1800XL AIW card whose temperature can come close to boiling point when under load. The VF1 achieves an incredible reduction of 25 degrees with minimum noise, it is much more quiet than the stock fan. Overclocking was also a mind blowing category. The VF1 allowed the card to overclock to 635/725MHz Core/Clock. THG gave it a must have without hesitation.
Thanks to the readers who pointed me to the Anandtech review where Anand tested the Apple Mac Book Pro both as a PC and a Mac. The Macbook laptop he tested runs a 2GHz processor with 2GB memory, a Radeon X1600 and a 15-inch monitor plus more goodies in store. However, where things turned interesting is when he managed to get boot camp running with Windows XP SP2. Anand managed to get a blue screen as well but most impressive was the beta version of Parallel's Workstation 2.1 Beta w/ Intel VT support. Just look how Parallel's takes on Rosetta
3Dprofessor tests the new ATI FireGL V7300. Seems that the Canadian Caribou - That's PCInpact's name for ATI - wants to grab more than just a few pieces of the workstation market with that card and the V7350. The benchmark system used was a MSI K8N Opteron 180 and the V7300 gave its bigger brother some problems. The card is not bad at all - although 3Dprofessor stops short of comparing it with any Nvidia card. Both the 7350 and the 7300 are relatively cheap - compared to prices four/five years ago - remember Oxygen VX1? and available.
Madshrimps reviews the Aerocool ExtremEngine 3T case. In a nutshell,. it is a 7kg, 7-expansion slot, 11 bays tower without PSU but with four inputs and an onboard fan controller. The design of the case - with a 250mm side panel fan and a 140mm aircraft engine like fan will certainly make it likable to overclockers. Madshrimps found out that it is not that bad at all even when compared to Coolermaster's casing. It has an excellent airflow/noise ratio and wins kuddos for its looks.
ITreviews.co.uk reports on the Canon i9950 printer which is a A3+ colour printer that can print in eight-colour photo quality. It is not that much expensive but you will only be able to print with your USB 2.0 port, leaving Firewire for Mac. It also prints on CD and the print quality is apparently up there running with the Pixma range. Verdict is that it is a very capable yet, cheap medium format printer. It is a shame though that you have to pay nearly ten times more when moving from an A4 to an A3 printer. µ
