THE JUDGE overseeing the SCO v. Novell lawsuit has set the date for trial to begin on September 17, with several preliminary deadlines to be met by the parties before then.

The pretrial schedule laid down by US Federal District Court Judge Kimball will likely keep both parties' law firms busy.

After the rulings on partial summary judgement motions ten days ago that all but totally eviscerated SCO's case, this litigation effectively turned into Novell versus SCO.

In between scrambling to meet all these pretrial deadlines, SCO's lawyers should be practicing the tarantella, because it's looking like they'll need to do some very fast and fancy dancing at trial to prevent Novell's counterclaims from forcing SCO into sudden bankruptcy.

The Honorable Dale A. Kimball's pretrial scheduling order is available here (pdf). µ
