Dubai to build biggest ever LED screen

I can see for miles and miles
Tuesday, 7 October 2008, 12:43

HAPPY WITH YOUR 22-inch wide-screen monitor? Be prepared for a huge case of pixel envy.

Dubai-based construction company Tameer is boasting that it's about to build the world's largest LED screen, which will cover the entire 100m x 20m facade of Podium, the latest landmark office block to pop up in the desert Kingdom's Majan district.

Yes... that's a pretty bold statement

You'll be able to see Blade Runner style ads on the gargantuan screen from a mile away, according to the company.

Admittedly, you'd get a very bad crick in your neck trying to watch movies or play games on the thing as it's set up in portrait rather than landscape mode.

And we dread to think how much power it draws, and wouldn't want to be responsible for leaving it in standby mode all night. µ

Hackers dream

I can just see Hackers drooling over how to hack into it and put up a picture of their 'manhood'.

You see, size does matter....

Res?

It is useless if that big LCD has ordinary res. Perhaps 1 MMpixel will be better?

LEDS Put Out 120 Lumins Per Watt.

Common Light Bulb puts out mere 15 lumins per watt, Florescent makes 90 Lumins per watt. OLED is even more than todays LED Source. So there is great advantage in Power Consumption with LED Light Source. Also LED last just about forever.

Driving by I see, HAMMs' $5.99, 0ne mile ahead. What way to Sell. Also, Kick Abe Faud in Nutz, be good slogan on Screen. Follow Anyone Until Death.

Tetris

If you play Tetris on that, does the building get shorter when you complete a row?
