Only real men have fabs - Jerry Sanders III, AMD

SILICON INTEGRATED Systems (SIS), which is now largely controlled by mega-Taiwanese foundry UMC, said it will spin off its fabrication plant into a subsidiary - 100% owned by itself.

The fab firm, which may be named SIS Microelectronics Corp, needs approval from an extraordinary shareholder's meeting come December.

In a statement, SIS said the spun off firm will pick up both assets and liabilities related to the fab - that's NT$17,249,411,974 in assets, NT$8,181,940,451 of liabilities, and NT$9,067,471, 523 of equity.

One US dollar is equivalent to NT$34.14.

What's happening to SIS without its fab? It will focus on integrated circuit design related technology, while the new fab firm will "expand its production items", whatever that means. ยต
