Hardware Roundup The wibblethon
Monday, 11 December 2006, 10:07
AFTER A FEW server issues IT-review is back up and running with no less than four new reviews. First up is the continuation of the AM2 motherboard roundup with Part II and Part III. Not to mention a Sneak peek: Dual-core Opterons vs E6700 on 8800GTX and an overview of the 8800GTS - EVGA, MSI and Gainward.

PC Perspective's 2006 Holiday Shopping Guide is a must see if you're stumped about what get your friendly neighbourhood geek this year, with ideas to suit all ranges of budget.

As well as a review of the OCZ EvoStream 600-watt SLI PSU using Modular Design, Tweaktown has a Taiwan Exclusive - GeCube Dual GPU Radeon X1650XT Tested that receives something of a mixed review given that it is still in development.

Rbmods brings us the Vizo Uranus External HDD Enclosure Review which is a little on the loud side, but performs well and features a handy one button backup system to help keep your precious data safe.

Bjorn3d has reviewed the PC Power & Cooling 1KW-SR, 1 KW Power Supply. This massively powerful PSU should see you happily running almost any PC you can contrive, but you may have the Green party knocking on your door asking questions.

On a more eco-friendly note Madshrimps delivers up the Silverstone ST40EF PSU Review: Power Through Efficiency. At 400W it may not support certain RAID or SLI setups, but even at that power it stands up to running a respectable PC without any problems.

Bit-tech has reviewed the Abit Fatal1ty AN9 32X. It seems that Abit has achieved their goal of creating a high end gaming motherboard, but the inclusion of only one PCI slot may put some people off.

Virtual-Hideout has put two new articles, the Buffalo 1GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Review and the Sapphire Ultimate X1950Pro 256MB Graphics Card Review. Both products performed well, although strangely the X1950Pro seemed to perform slightly worse when overclocked, but given the stock performance you don't really need to overclock this card anyway.

On a related chipset note, Phoronix has reviewed the ASUS EAX1950PRO 256MB RV570 which receives a noteworthy 8/10.

MVKTech has been checking out the Gainward BLISS 7950 GT Golden Sample and it looks like Gainward have something to be truly proud of with this new product. ยต
