Belkin settles with Microsoft

Of mice, of men, of voles
Monday, 4 December 2006, 08:08
MAKER of computer peripherals, Belkin, has buried the hatchet with software Empire Microsoft over a dispute about mice patents.

According to IDG, Vole filed a patent-infringement complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) in August. It claimed that Belkin was importing products that infringed on a Microsoft patent for peripheral device technology.

Belkin was using Vole's U2 technology in several of its mouse products which enables its mice to plug and play.

Vole had been having words with Belkin for nearly two years before finally losing patience and making the ITC complaint.

Apparently the reason Vole went to the ITC was because the mice were not made in the US and Vole wanted to stop Belkin importing them.

Details of the deal are not known yet, but it seems that the mice will continue to be imported which means it is likely that money will have changed hands.
