Robot Air Force tests over UK
THE UK MINISTRY of Defence wants to extend its tests of unmanned flying vehicles over built up areas around Salisbury Plain.
It has opened a public consultation before implementing the extension in December 2009, when it wants to let its Watchkeeper surveillance plain roam over larger expanses of the English countryside.
"Current UK policy specifies that unmanned aircraft activity beyond line of sight must be conducted within a Danger Area or other segregated airspace," said the MOD today.
"The Ministry of Defence already conducts routine flights of its current unmanned aircraft in the segregated airspace above Salisbury Plain; however, this airspace alone is insufficient to accommodate the full training requirements of the unmanned aircraft currently being procured," it added.
The proposed testing area would operate in business hours, though they might sometimes have to work late nights and weekends.
Other unspecified robot aircraft would be tested. The Watchkeeper and two other unarmed planes were the only ones named in the proposal. µ

But remember, such technology as remotely controlled flying vehicles couldn't possibly be used to fly passenger planes into buildings.
Yep, I foresee another flood of UFO sightings by fevered British skywatchers, some still on duty from WW2. Must keep a sharp eye out for the Luftwaffe, you know.

And, of course, they'll be "testing" the sensor platforms on these unmanned spy planes.
