Americans generally do the right thing, after first exhausting all the available alternatives - Winston Spencer Churchill
If you are in most of the US, then it is on the 13th, but east coasters can take their pick. The NDA expiry was pulled in to 9PM PST on July 13. Quite the odd time if I say so myself. The reason given is "due to popular demand", but if I was a base cynic, I would say it has something to do with the July 19th earnings call.
Either way, one thing not likely to have a positive effect on earnings is the prices, they are listed as $999 - X6800, $530 - E6700, $316 - E6600, $224 - E6400, $183 - E6300.
The older models, the ones that they will still make up 87% of mainstream desktop and 100% of non-mainstream desktops - the ugly ones that dress Emo if you follow market segments - by the end of Q3, and 76% by the end of Q4 will see huge drops too. They will be $163 for the 945, $133 for the 915, $113 for the 820, and the lowly 805 'channel stuffer' is at $93.
Conroe are going to be great chips, no doubt there, but the ramp is not going to be fast enough to save margins. Let's hope Intel can ramp faster than they say, otherwise Q3 may be as ugly as the second quarter. µ
