Fujitsu to increase HDD capacity by 500% - claim

But hold your horses for a year or two
Fri May 11 2007, 11:17
HARD DRIVE maker Fujitsu is claiming it's made a breakthrough on tech which will boost capacity by as much as 500 per cent, nikkei.net reports.

How does it do this? The report says that Fujitsu has developed tech to read data from smaller points on the platter.

But you can hold your horses because HDDs using the tech won't be available until 2009 - the firm needs to improve the head technology to match the ability to make smaller pits on a platter.

There's also a change in materials for a platter so that the ability to read the smaller data will be more reliable. µ
