Via to intro first licensed Pentium 4 chipset soon

PT-800 single channel, dual channel in September

SOURCES SUGGESTED Via is close to introducing the first chipset for the Pentium 4 it's made after it settled its long standing row with Intel.

The chipset, as we've revealed here earlier, will likely be a single bandwidth DDR 400 set, although roadmaps seen by the INQ suggest that an 880 dual channel DDR chipset will arrive in September.

The single channel chipset will likely be priced reasonably, and many motherboard makers are expected to introduce products based on the PT 800 and the dual channel PT 880.

The introduction of these chipsets will likely give Via's revenues a much needed boost. Although it made and marketed Pentium 4 chipsets despite its litigation with Intel, few motherboard makers were prepared to risk Chipzilla's ire by adopting it for motherboards.
