Intel shows Futuremark's QC demo

IDF Future 3DMarks to feature Ice Storm Fighters engine
Tue Sep 26 2006, 06:17
WHILE 3DMARK06 featured a baseline multi-threaded game engine, upon which the benchmark would calculate the CPU score and impact the overall 3Dmark score - upcoming quad-core processors ask for even higher levels of multi-threaded optimizations.

During the Kentsfield briefing and benchmarking session, Intel showed their sponsored joint-development effort with Futuremark. The company will be using Ice Storm Fighters game demo/benchmark for demoing the capabilities of its Kentsfield (Core 2 Quad) processor, which is set to be introduced in next couple of weeks.

This free download is developed in a way how the game engines should be optimized for usage in multithreaded world. Even though Intel paid for this demo and the demo itself was optimized using the VTune optimization utility, owners of upcoming AMD QuadFather (4x4) will also have a good experience, but not as good as if you were using a glued Conroe processor dubbed Kentsfield.

In the end, final 3DMark07 and 3DMark08 benchmarks will feature a multi-threaded game engine based upon Ice Storm Fighers engine, further optimized for both AMD and Intel processors, or more precise - quad and octa core (AMD 4x4) capable benchmark. ยต
