Cisco kills off Linksys

It has ceased to be
Friday, 27 July 2007, 11:19
CISCO'S JOHN Chambers confirmed that the Linksys, famous for its wireless routers, shall be culled.

Linksys, which has been around since 1988, was bought by Cisco in 2003.

According to Uberpulse, Chambers said that the Linksys name will be replaced by new and redesigned Cisco branding.

Last April Cisco moved to make it easier for Linksys resellers to add Cisco products to their offerings and vice versa. The networking giant also created a new division solely focused on the SMB market and headed by Rick Moran. This made it less important to have an independent brand name.

Chambers said that the Linksys name was kept because US consumers knew the name better than Cisco. Now apparently this is not the case. µ
