HOT DUAL-CARD ACTION is in the air at the moment, with ATI's effort due for imminent release and Nvidia's tit-for-tat card now starting to show up on Chinese web forums.
The 9800 GX2 is slightly less complicated than the Radeon card. Whereas the 3870 at least has the two chips on a single board, the 9800 GX2 is the same as the previous 7950 GX2, being just two cards slapped together with a bridge.
The card features a couple of DVI ports as well as an HDMI port on the back. There also appears to be an optical audio port for running your sound out as a passthrough.
Grab the pics here.
The first benchmarks are out, although using early drivers. At first glance, the card seems to be slower than a pair of G92 GTS cards in SLI, but expect those scores to pick up across the next month as the driver gets a few revisions.
We're pretty sure Nvidia will be working hard to make this their flagship product - especially when considering the possibility of bringing back quad SLI. ยต
Take note, only one SLI bridge header, so 2 cards will be ok, 3+ not?
Wow, was thinking last night, this would be the perfect next card for me as I don't really want to sacrifice 2 slots for SLI anymore.

2 DVI ports though? !@%$ off. 4 should be present on said card, and now I will have to get an 8800 gt and waste 2 slots of my stupid 6600gt and its huge cooler to have 2 extra monitors.

DAMMIT NVIDIA!
these benchmarks are simulated with two 8800GT 512 cards underclocked. They arent real.
The forum you link to pulls from another forum, and that forum has a link to another forum that the poster right after it says it didn't work anymore. seems kinda suspicious
I don't think the benchmarks in that link really represent the 9800GX2:

"I am testing two GeForce 8800 GTS-512 now, during this test i can to test "supposed" future performance of GeForce 9800GX2 ... i think."
~ 200W in idle mode, I suppose? Or did the brilliant heads at NVidia finally managed to get this down to an impressive ~150W?

A switch from 8800GTX to 2400HD brings saving of 70W-80W in idle mode. Ok ok, 2400HD is one of the worst gaming cards. But idle means: just draw this desktop. A card should not use 100W for this. And a GX2 can get easily to about 200W
I think three cards would entail a hex-SLi solution, and given the problems with quad SLi I doubt hex SLi will become a reality soon.
