Mainland China claims Enhanced Versatile Disc breakthrough

Mass production this year - better than DVD
Wednesday, 17 July 2002, 13:11
THE PEOPLE'S DAILY claimed that Chinese engineers have developed an optical disk technology better than DVD and which means that future products will be free from foreign patent monopolisation.

The format, enhanced versatile disc (EVD) was developed by Davform and has collected 22 international patents and five software applications already, the report said.

It has already been forwarded to international committees as a proposed industry standard.

The organ says that EVD can be used in computers, comms, and household devices, with disks having better audio quality than Dolby AC-3.

The SVA Group will mass produce players using the product later this year, the paper adds.

SVA Group has partners including JVC, Kenwood, Motorola, Samsung, Sharp, Siemens, Sony, Hughes and other multinationals.

Here's what the Organ of the People says. µ

*MEANWHILE, the same paper is getting very aerated about a report prepared by the US Congress, suggesting that China exports missile technology, endangers US national security, and is thinking about invading Taiwan again. The paper claims US right wingers are whipping up the Chinese threat, and says that the US should create special ethical codes for American companies trading on the mainland. That's here. µ
