Athlon FX 55 to remain AMD's fastest for games

Dual-core Athlons not for spotty gamers
Wednesday, 20 April 2005, 18:36
UNLIKE ITS BLUE competitor, AMD won't launch or recommend a dual CPU for gaming just jet. It kind of surprised us but AMD knows that its Athlon FX generation is faster than its tomorrow-to-be-launched dual core Athlon X2 CPUs.

AMD claims that its Athlon FX 55 is the fastest gaming solution available and that if you want the latest and greatest performance then you have to get one of those.

The company warns that Athlon FX 55 will end up approximately 15 to 20 percent faster than dual-core CPUs on PC games. Its message is clear: if you want to play games and get the best scores you have to use FX not dual-core X2 chips.

The dual core X2 CPUs are more multi-tasking oriented and games are just not that. So gamers need not be too excited about dual-core; it's for multi-tasking guys, rendering guys, digital video editing guys, database guys but not for games guys. µ
