ZEUS TECHNOLOGY, is pushing out version 5.0 of its Extensible Traffic Manager (ZXTM), having added Java Extensions to the mix.
ZXTM is an extensible Application Delivery platform which, as Steve Webb Zeus' VP strategic accounts explained, sits behind the routers and firewalls but in front of the applictaions and web servers, monitoring the traffic.
The system manages the delivery of application data to many users at once, caching or compressing content as necessary. It is able to rewrite on the fly while balancing load across the back-end servers.
The Java Extensions added to ZXTM 5.0 allow users to extend the capabilities of traffic management rules written in Zeus’ Trafficscript language.
Java Extensions can inspect traffic in any protocol, process and rewrite it and can control how it is routed and managed within ZXTM.
Webb said the BBC uses Zeus' system to manage its online site. At times of high demand the system automatically serves up low-res pics to ease the load.
Where credit card transactions are involved the software will cling to open secure connections like a limpet, sacrificing users that haven't yet put their money where their mouse is.
ZXTM 5.0 is available from today through Zeus' channel partners.
The firm released this latest version of its software at Interop, and you can have a fiddle with it here. µ
