Apple flips over Iphone patent

Clamshell coming?

APPLE'S ALMOST SUCCESSFUL attempt to take over the whole mobile phone universe could take another direction if a recently-filed patent is anything to go by (take large pinch of salt and wait a year or two).

The application is for a dual-sided trackpad which "would be transulcent and boast touch sensitive panels on each side, allowing it to be used both when it's opened or when it's covering the main display."

In effect this would allow the the phone's form factor to be much reduced. Iphone Nano anyone?

Why?

Why make a bad product smaller? Yes its a cool sounding patent but they shouldn't patent this stuff if they won't sell the technology to anyone else. Imaging how useful it could be in ambulances or in engineering and design. Not just as a cruddy phone from the 2.5G past.
