HPQ employees didn't get job cut notices

But "sunset dates" brought forwards
Thursday, 26 September 2002, 09:36
REPORTS ON various news sites, including CNN/Money that HP employees were told of more layoffs on Tuesday appear to be incorrect, according to reliable sources within the firm itself.

But what they were told yesterday was that the so-called "sunset dates" that originally were scheduled for mid-December have now been moved up to October 21st.

That, according to reliable sources deep within Hewlett Packard, is because the higher echelons of management are attempting to meet their numbers and dispose of as many folk as possible by the end of its financial year, which will look good, or better to Wall Street than otherwise.

One HPQ worker told the INQUIRER: "I read this article posted at CNN/Money and it stated an email message was sent out to employees on Tuesday regarding the additional layoffs.

"I had to read it twice to make sure I read it correctly since I never got such email. I asked several people in other organizations [within HPQ] and they all said they never received anything."
