HP to cut 14,500 staff over 18 months

Customers Solution Group to go
Tue Jul 19 2005, 14:42
MARK HURD, HP's CEO, said that 14,500 people will lose their jobs worldwide over the next six quarters. That represents around 10% of its total staff.

That will cost it $1.1 billion in restructuring costs over the same period, with those costs happening in the fourth fiscal HP quarter.

It will try and keep reductions to sales staff minimal, and will make few changes to its R&D budget.

Most of the cuts will come in support functions like human resources, finance, and administration. The job cuts will vary from country to country.

Mark HurdHP will make changes to its structure, too. The Customer Solutions Group will be dissolved, and its functions will go into the Technology Solutions group, the Imaging and Printing group, and the Personal Systems group.

Cathy Lyons, Todd Bradley, and Randy Mott will be brought onto the company's executive council. Mike Winkler will retire soon. µ
