Britain bangs up youth for visiting the wrong places on the Web

Teen terrorist
Friday, 19 September 2008, 18:27

BRITAIN HAS SET a new record by convicting the youngest person ever under the UK Terrorism Act to two years in a yoof prison.

Young Hammaad Munshi, from Dewsbury was only 16 when Police arrested him for noodling about on Islamic websites and having a recipe for napalm on his PC. (In case anyone was wondering, you just need to dissolve Styrofoam in gasoline).

The prosecution in Munshi’s trial accused the boy of browsing websites which promoted Jihad – although Fox news is perfectly acceptable browsing– and downloading ‘how to’ guides for making detonators and explosives.

Apparently, going online under a silly alias - "fidadee" meaning "person ready to sacrifice himself" – and expressing a teenage enthusiasm to fight a jihad was enough reason for a judge to deem it necessary to lock Munshi away, after deciding he had been influenced by "fanatical extremists".

Two of these "fanatical extremists" said to have radicalised Munshi online, Aabid Khan and Sultan Muhammad, were also tried and convicted.

Khan, purportedly, had used MSN chat to talk to Munshi about various possibilities for smuggling a sword through airline security – a plan which never materialised.

"They took advantage of your youthful naivety in order to indoctrinate you with pernicious and warped ideas masquerading as altruistic religious zeal,” the old Bailey Judge scolded Munshi, adding "You have brought very great shame upon yourself, your family and your religion".

Police had raided Munshi’s house back in 2006, finding what they claimed to be “al-Qaeda propaganda” on his computer and scribbled notes about martyrdom hidden under his bed with some particularly toxic socks.

Shahid Malik, Munshi's local MP said the teenager's family had been left " shocked and bewildered" by what had happened. "Mosques have done a lot but they need to do more in terms of telling young people what is acceptable and what is not in Islam."

So teens lighting their own farts whilst smoking bongs in their dark, musky smelling bedrooms is ok, especially if they’re white and middle class, but reading about Napalm online and chatting with brown bearded men on MSN is a no-no, then. Ok, we get it. µ

The trick would've been...

to label Bush as a terrorist and put his ass in jail. As far as I'm concerned the terrorists favorite day in this century was the day the Patriot Act was passed.

Great job, Bush, you not only got us into a stupid war, but you took away a lot of the freedoms that made them hate our country in the first place.

EPIC FAIL, jackass.

These lot are shaking in their boots...

...And for no reason. Still maybe after a few years of hammering this sh*t into his brain he might have gone and done something stupid. So maybe it was better to stop him now before the problem became serious.

Like violent video games makes people more violent some even copying things they see, just look at the number of teens killed in London and you'll realise whats going on - oh and its mostly drugs related so they were no angles with the ring on top of their head hence why no one wants to come help the police. When someone builds debt and is unable to pay what was agreed, he pays with his life. the police has no chance 'cos they don't know what the teens are upto. The police should save their time and public money.

Stop and search is the perfect tool the police has, but even then there are people going on about human right bulls*it for the kids, come on, no wonder the prisoner has a right to watch porn else he sues the government... and your 13 and 14 year olds having abortion... something has gone wrong in your system - maybe it's too much freedom and now it's like the jungles of Africa with jungle rules - "the strong shall survive".

I say go back to, at least, your bible - even though it's flawed - and follow your faith otherwise the sky is the limit to your stupidity!

Oh and did you know Hitler was a Christain and he did all them jews all 6 million of them... damn there were probably atleast 2 million very good people (forget religon), shame that christain (Hitler) didn't offer the other cheek, anyway.

As for the mosque issue, well only a few youngsters ever go to the mosque. They come in late, are in the very back row, and as soon as the iman (prist) is about to finish and turns to give people words of wisdom they are up and gone.

Outside you see 'em building a zoot (cannibis) and sharing that - going high on it. That kick they get from it is all what is causing all that trouble and soon they'll go to the bigger, more serious drugs.

So as you can see it's ease to blame the mosque but no-one can force these young people to go to the mosque, this is their freedom and rights under the british law.

Even their parents will get slaps if they were to bad-mouth the kid - this is even true in your society with your drunkards. Come on admit it.

Bye. Jon.

To be fair, the first demographic is doing absolutely nothing harmful (apart from maybe to themselves) whereas the second is trying to blow us up.

Anarchist Cookbook

What kid that age doesn't have a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook? Granted when I was his age it was a lot harder to find online, It took a lot longer to download in those days too. My parents questioned why I was suddenly taking all the styrofoam in the house. The matchstick head tennis ball bomb was fun too.

Terrorist?

I find it hard to swallow this news.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if this kid had no intention of terrorist activity before... He will when he gets out.
May as well do the crime you're being sent to prison for.

why belittle this....

this religious brainwashing is for real, women men and children have all filled the role of suicide bombers,

but it cant happen in the UK, no way!!

come on be real, they sentenced this kid for 2 reasons, he was a potential threat, and they needed to set an example. given all the terrorist acts by the IRA in the past, i would think that the UK would be serious about this kind of threat.

If you think this is a big joke watch these 2 google video documentaries

dispatches : under cover mosque

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=dispatches+undercover&emb=0&aq=f#q=dispatches%20undercover&emb=0&aq=f&dur=3

and its follow up a year later

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=dispatches+undercover&emb=0&aq=f#q=dispatches%20undercover%20return&emb=0&dur=2

A year later they are still promoting the kill or convert all kaffir and make the world islam that they said was a mistake and out of context, after the first documentary came out.

Go ahead make some more silly sarcastic remarks, see whos laughing when some guy is pointing an AK at you at 5 am to go pray, like it is in saudi right now, 5 times a day.

your government just slipped sharia civil law right under your noses too, keep making jokes....funny guy...

im all for live and let live, if they dont like our western countries they should stay where they come from, freedom doesnt mean going into anothers country, changing that country's customs and culture because god said so.

If thats the case my god is saying keep them and their stinking intolerant god out ... let them go colonize mars or something...

Yeah Right

Quote, "the teenager's family had been left " shocked and bewildered"

That's what they all say.
He probably got brainwashed at his parents mosque.

It really is their fault.

"You have brought very great shame upon yourself, your family and your religion".

Couldn't they have left it to someone else to pass religious judgment on teh boy?
I think it sounds a bit vindictive and I would've hoped that they had rejected such sentiments absolutely.

Good

It's nice to see civil liberties thrown down the toilet like that. It's for the safe or everyone (except the kid in jail or people who die in terrorist attacks when real terrorists are not dumb enough to chat aboout it on MSN -which is most of the time-).

And also makes me glad i don't live in an arab country where people are wrongfully accused of crimes and punished according to some totalitarian law.

Missed childhood

I'm sorry i must have missed that part of my childhood where making bombs and plotting to take swords onto planes during my summer holiday was the norm.
Then again I remember that time i lit my fart and killed half of glasgow, point taken

So it's OK?

Are you seriously comparing someone messing around with weed to to someone reading up about napalm and potentially putting it to use?

With the evidence the police had it would have been enough to convict a paedophile.

But I do agree it was excessive to convict a 16 year old as a terrorist. I don't think it's a matter of being brown and white though, rather using someone's life to send out a message.

Well

More halfwitted political emotional ranting on the Inq....

I would have thought that after having to pull one of Charlie's stories a more careful eye would have been put over this sort of ill-informed whinging.

As to the column's final but of hyperbole, yes, white middle aged kids lighting farts in their bedrooms is not worthy of police intervention. It's not racism. Get over it.

I really can't tell if you're being facetious or sarcastic - either way, that's some A-grade trolling...

Lets wait until he kills a few people at least....

Yeah it's so unfair isn't it. We should at least have let him murder a few innocent members of the public before we lock him up!
Spare us the liberal claptrap and report news instead of the rubbish you recycle from the Guardian or the BBC. At least they bothered to have someone in court to listen to the trial.

He probably just wanted to be cool...

He is the right age to be easily excited with everything the world says about his religion.
At present he is probably the "coolest" guy being in prison so young but in future he will probably be a social outcast and I could imagine his teenage fantasy become reality because society put him away for it.

Good

Still a lot better than the crappy Arab countries his parents probably came from. I doubt they're really that upset about him getting b-slapped over this.

US American perspective

Well, back when I was 13, actually making bombs and incendiaries was a neighborhood lark. Fortunately nobody lost even a finger. Thank goodness I grew up in a time when we were worried about total nuclear annihilation instead of a guy with a pointed stick, or I might still be in jail.

The actual charges and 2 year sentence were for having a napalm recipe and talking smack online? He'd have got 10 years if he was caught in my college library.

Sure, lock em all up

Let me see, I've already looked up a fair amount of technical details about firearms.
I also have a download of the Anarchist Cookbook somewhere in my storage DVDs.
And I've had my share of terrorist conversations with a few shady characters.
Oh my God ! I also sport a beard !
But wait, judge, I'm white ! And the shady characters were all in a James Bond roleplaying thing ! I swear !
So it's okay, right ?
After all, I'm white.
