Compaq tells punters where the 'any' key is

Computing secrets revealed

FOR AT least 20 years computer users have been wondering where that pesky 'any' key is.

We have had several keyboards over the years and despite frequent requests from our computer software to 'hit any key to continue', we have yet to find one with an any key installed.

Well the latest FAQ from Compaq has finally revealed the whereabouts of that secret to the unwashed masses.

FAQ2859, which can be found here, informs us that the term "any key" does not refer to a particular key on the keyboard. "It simply means to strike any one of the keys on your keyboard or handheld screen".

At last there is a FAQ and a help file which is really useful. Although it is unlikely that the people who can't find the 'any' key would ever work out how to find the FAQ. µ
