The newsletter confirms that there are changes to both HP/UX 11iV3 delivery, as well as the end to EV79.
It reprints a letter released to the public on the 23rd of October from Rich Marcello, general manager of the Business Critical server product line.
It takes a while for Marcello to get round to the point, but he says in the letter that the EV79 will be replaced by the EV7Z, which he claims will "meet your needs by delivering a performance boost of 14 to 16 per cent at the same price as current EV7 systems and in the scheduled 2004 timeframe".
We reported the EV79 was a dead duck on the 10th of October.
Shannon comments in his subscription only newsletter: "This clearly is not the kind of message that HP would choose to convey, especially in light of the 3FD downturn in the Business Critical Server franchise.
"Nevertheless, HP is to be commended for demonstrating true integrity by announcing a less than positive "October Surprise" rather than opting to surprise customers later".
Tru64, he says, has a one year reprieve, while he also says Superdome machines using 128 Itanium processors are likely to be delayed until late 2005 now. People will have to make do with the 64 processor versions. ยต
