ATI to put digital, analogue tuner on one card

That's where ATI multimedia is going

ONE OF THE things we learned in Canada is that ATI's multimedia team is actually heading towards unified solution when it comes to TV tuners.

The team wants to gets to the ultimate goal of having one TV tuner capable of doing analogue and digital on one card.

A future generation Theatre chip might be able to do that and we still don't know its timing, but we know where ATI wants to be. That's the direction the company wants to go.

If you would like to use digital and analogue TV decoding at once, you will need two separate TV tuners and this might be handy if you decided to record a program from digital TV and at the same time to watch some analogue program or the other way around.

A single TV tuner with the right software support can do one or another so we will see some dual digital/analogue tuners from ATI in the future. The reasoning is simple - otherwise you you will end up with two cards in your PC, one for digital and one for the analogue signal and that is definitely expensive. µ
