AUSTRIAN CPU cooler brand, Noctua, has given Core i7 upgraders an early Christmas gift of sorts.
The company has announced it’ll be giving away LGA775-to-LGA1366 adapters so that any Noctua – and probably most CPU coolers on the market after 2005 – will be able to mount on Intel’s new flagship CPUs.
The name of the device is 'SecuFirm2' and, according to Noctua, makes installing the cooler on the CPU even easier than before. The whole thing is free, but you’ll have to provide a proof of purchase in the form of a scan, photo or screen cap of the invoice so the amicable chaps at Noctua can senden you die kühler.
If you’re the proud owner of a Noctua kit, you’ll be able to access a form on the website, as soon as the Core i7 CPUs become available, and fill in the necessary details so they can send you the adapter.
While most companies would just repack an old cooler with a different mounting system and charge a premium for being targeted at the brand spankin’ new Core i7 processor, Noctua is taking the high road here.
Post-sales service. Someone in Austria’s heard of it. µ
Clearly Noctua could have charged people for this and made some extra money (as I can see most companies doing soon) The fact that they are giving it to customers makes me put Noctua high up on my list when I buy my next aftermarket cooler.

This is rather impressive attention to customers! Thanks to the INQ for calling this out and giving Noctua it's deserved props for this move! Here's hoping their attention to existing customers is rewarded with new customers!
Most companies simply can't do this even if they want to. Thanks to GAAP, if you give something away to people who own a product, you have to restate your earnings on sales of the product so that some portion of the earnings aren't counted until the date of the give away.
