Microsoft partner slams 'flaky' Vista and Office 'hindrance'

Bartercard sees no benefits
Friday, 7 July 2006, 09:08
GLOBAL trade exchange outfit and long-term "all Microsoft shop", Bartercard says it is far from happy about the latest Vista and Office betas.

Bartercard's chief information officer Jason Van said his team tested both and found that Vista was "flaky" and Office's new features may actually be more of a hindrance than a help.

The interview with Aussie ZD Net is bad news for Vole which is hoping to attract interest in its operating system from companies exactly like Bartercard.

The outfit has 1,500 desktops and about 60 servers in 16 locations around the world, which run on Windows XP and Server 2003.

Van said that he was hoping that the company didn't have to look at the Volish upgrades until the end of next year when the next release candidate of the operating system is expected to be around.

By then Vole should have fixed the bugs that caused Bartercard's administration system to lock up, he hopes.

On the plus side, Vista did have some good points including the file management system and speed. However, Office 2007 was complete pants and didn't have any major feature that was attractive to the company, he said.

"It's all .NET extensions. I think it's going to be more of a bloody hindrance than anything. There's nothing that can't already be delivered on Office 2003," he said.
