Apple releases wireless patch

Airport insecurity
Tuesday, 10 April 2007, 09:32
THE UNGREEN APPLE Apple has released a fix for two flaws in its latest AirPort Extreme base station.

The update, available for download from Apple's Web site, fixes a 802.11n default configuration that allows incoming IPv6 connections and exposes network services on hosts connected to the device to remote attackers.

The update limits inbound IPv6 traffic to the local network.

Another fix that Apple has released is for a flaw is in a 'feature' in the AirPort Disk. The idea was that network users should be allowed to share storage space on a USB disk connected to the base station. However, the password protection feature does not protect file names which means they can be nicked.

Both issues only affect the AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n, a wireless router which has been in the shops since January. µ
