AMD reckons its memory controller will give it server edge

Don't forget this two years down the line
Wednesday, 25 July 2007, 12:15
CHIP FIRM AMD is filling the gap between old technology and the release of server chips later this year with a press release about memory extension technology it will release two years down the line.

The "Socket G3 memory extender" tech will support DDR3 memory, and it claims will be a cost effective way for its customers to access memory or additional memory for better performance in server environments.

Jerry-sanders-iiiIt is fashioning the tech with IDT and Inphi, who will make and sell G3MX components.

But AMD is a little light on the details. As it's two years down the line and Jerry Sanders III told us in 1992 that the K10 would be out by the end of the century, we reckon that what the vendors call the "competitive landscape" might have changed a bit by then. ยต
