Tivo puts Youtube on the telly

Video killed the TV star
Thursday, 13 March 2008, 11:36

DIGITAL VIDEO recorder (DVR) maker TiVo has announced a deal with search engine giant Google to allow access to millions of Youtube videos directly from the idiot box.

The service will be available later this year to broadband subscribers with TiVo Series3 DVRs, including the new TiVo HD.

Users will be able to search, browse and watch videos directly on their television sets through broadband-connected TiVo DVRs. Users will be able to log into Youtube directly and access their favourite channels and playlists.

The company said that the combination of Youtube and TiVo's intuitive user interface will allow subscribers to "discover and enjoy the most shared and most discussed web videos in the world on their televisions".

In reality, this means that Americans will be able to watch poor quality videos of spotty herberts smacking themselves in the nuts with a skateboard without having to get off their arses and boot the computer. Another nail in the coffin of quality broadcasting then. µ

Neuros OSD

The Neuros OSD device has had this for some time, I know because I have one.

Although it is very grainy/blocky watching via a 32"+ TV.
