Intel to call McKinley Itanic 2?

Is it hitting the icebergs?
Thu Apr 25 2002, 16:52
A NUMBER OF ASIAN SITES are claiming that Intel will call the McKinley processor the Itanium 2, with a few sites having pictures of the new logo.

According to the reports, the logo was shown at the Intel Developer Forum in Asia. We've tried to contact Intel for a confirmation or a denial, but there's no official reply so far.

It's possible that Intel might do this - heavens to Betsy, anything is possible in this topsy turvy industry that we occupy.

We first saw these reports on VR-Zone, but a number of other sites are also carrying pictures such as:

Alphaloop, Gzeasy, and PC Pop.

We'll try and get a confirm or deny at some point before close of play, if that's possible.

The only thought that occurs to us is that if Intel calls the McKinley the Itanic 2, doesn't that imply that the first Itanic hit the iceberg... and sank? µ
