SARS case found in Singapore, malaria in Taiwan

WHO warned this might happen
Tue Sep 09 2003, 10:43
ENGLISH language newspaper the Taipei Times is reporting that a patient in Singapore has tested positive for SARS, prompting fears of a further outbreak.

And the same paper reports that a man in Taitung, Taiwan, has died of malaria, the first such case on the island for 38 years.

The malaria victim died because his nephew had contracted the disease on a trip abroad. But local mosquitoes bit him, and transmitted the flukes to his uncle.

Investigators claim that while they've captured several specimens of 23 Anopheles Minimus in the area, so far they haven't found any carrying the disease. µ
