Samsung shows off gigabit phone DRAM

SOUTH KOREAN giant Samsung said it has made a one gigabit mobile DRAM chip, based on an 80 nanometre process.

The low power DDR is aimed at the camera, media player, gaming, mobile and PDA markets.

Samsung has alread created a 512 megabit chip and the one gigabit chip uses a similar packaging system, but the single chip is 20 per cent slimmer than stacked systems.

Samsung will start mass producing the one gigabit DRAM device in the second quarter of 2007. ยต
