€400 will make your monitor Microsoft Vista friendly

Cheap at half the price

YESTERDAY we reported how Microsoft's new version of Windows, Vista, will probably not like your monitor that much and will have to be dumped if you want to upgrade to the super soaraway operating system.

Some friendly reader has suggested that you may not have to junk your favourite screen after all. All you have to do is buy one of these boxes which converts non-HDCP displays to HDCP sources and it comes with an HDCP compatible input.

With this box, you can run your Voleware and your monitor will love it. There are a couple of downsides to the cunning plan. The first is that some displays do not support the PAL refresh rate of 50Hz which means you will need a scaler to convert it for you, which will cost you a few bob.

However, the biggest problem is that the box costs a couple of bob short of €400, which is a bit steep when you consider I bought the monitor for $130 US.

Is there no justice in the world? [Don't answer, Ed.] µ
