Net working from home to solve traffic crisis

Workers should wibble to work
Wednesday, 25 October 2006, 13:31
MOTORIST BOFFS OVER AT the RAC Foundation are encouraging Brits to use the World Wide Wibble as much as possible to cut down on traffic, pollution and car accidents.

Sheila Rainger of the RAC Foundation reckons that workers should consider working from home or remote working, as it could do the planet a favour in terms of pollution, and the roads a favour in terms of congestion. "The e-highway has a vital role to play in curbing congestion chaos on the real highway," she rhymed cleverly.

The RAC did a bit of research and found that half of Blighty's workers are "information workers" and do not necessarily need to be in a certain place to do their jobs. Sheila and Co hope that Brits will start to leave their cars be and work from home - according to a recent study by the RAC, if all British motorists left their car at home for just one day a week, Britain's CO2 emissions would be cut by about 1%.

According to an RAC report from May, teleworking and technology could cut commuter traffic by up to 10%, as well as cutting down lorry journeys by up to 16%. ยต
