Lenovo Thinkpads with 3G radios get discounts

Give away the razor, they'll come back for the blades
Friday, 31 October 2008, 10:32

LENOVO AND ERICSSON have cut a deal with US mobile provider AT&T to offer $150 discounts on Thinkpads with 3G radios if buyers commit to two-year contracts with AT&T, the companies announced yesterday.

To be offered on Lenovo's SL, T and X series notebooks, the incentive means that Ericsson's 3G broadband cellular modem will be included free, while AT &T will throw in a free 30-day trial of its Dataconnect 3G broadband service, which costs about $60 per month.

AT&T says its 3G cellular data service delivers up to 1.7Mbps download and 1.2Mbps upload speeds. ยต

Lenovo needs to get with the times

There was hope for me to purchase another Lenovo ('er IBM) Thinkpad in the near future but after having two different lemons with countless motherboard problems on each (faulty ram slots failing) I have decided to abandon them altogether.

The four things I will miss are the excellent keyboard, stiff screen hinge that folds in a 180 degree planel, the thin screen bezels and the "Thinklight" (which just occurs to me is never quite bright enough anyhow - next time put in TWO of them). Lenovo (and IBM) must be the cheapest technology companies out there - and that's an insult! No one else ships laptops with DVD ROM/CDRW anymore...they are ALL dual layer DVD-RW and some are BluRay. Lenovo constantly ships machines that have 1GB of RAM too. Give me a break! Get with the times, drop your prices and ship the machines with a minimum of 2GB of RAM and dual layer DVD/RW...as a base machine! Not as a nickel and dime upgraded machine.

If you did those simple things, I might just wander back out of sheer curiosity in the future. Win back your customers Lenovo...you don't need $150 discounts on 3G radios and to be aligned with ATnT...just stop being such cheap asses!
