Westminster becomes BT "wireless city"

But it won't be free, probably
Thu Nov 30 2006, 10:26
BT SAID it and Westminster City Council will roll out a high speed wireless broadband network but it's only likely to be free for council workers.

The initiative is part of a BT plan to roll out 12 so-called "wireless cities" by April 2007. BT will fund the parts of the network which don't support council services.

That means that if you're wandering around Westminster, your machine is going to find BT Openzone which costs £6 an hour.

Westminister's logic is to let its workers go a-roaming while they're er, roaming, and will link in to its existing CCTV network. µ
