The outfit received a pasting from the security industry which found some pretty basic bugs in the browser which would have enabled hackers to use Safari to take over Windows.
Security testers told man plus dog that Apple seemed to be relying on them to provide the product with adequate testing. That would not be so bad, but Apple has a habit of ignoring them completely and not giving them credit for the work.
Apple's cock-ups would also not be so bad if Apple was not flogging the browser on the basis it was more secure than Firefox or IE. We are not saying that Apple has a vested interest in giving hackers new ways into XP and Vista. It has a new version of its OSX coming out soon which it is also touting as more secure than Windows.
