A COMPANY that set out with the bright idea of cloning cats has decided to seal up its cat flap, curl up by the fire and go to sleep.

Genetic Savings & Clone, based in California, obviously, sold copy-cats for $32,000 and higher, but said in a letter to customers and prospects that it couldn't refine its technology to the point of commercial viability, according to wire reports.

The fact that it only sold two cloned cats in its six-year history also could not have helped.

The firm's website still carries a banner promising, "guaranteed health and resemblance".

The firm is referring customers to another group that freezes pets' genetic material. µ
