Intel prices up Xeon Woodcrest server chips

Server Road Map
Monday, 6 February 2006, 10:50
CHIP FIRM Intel has told its customers preliminary specs of its Woodcrest server microprocessors and given them an idea of their pricing at launch.

The initial Xeons will be numbered the 5160, the 5150, the 5140, the 5130, the 5120 and the 5110.

As expected, they will all be delivered with 1333MHz front side buses and will have four megabytes of cache.

The raw processor speeds are nothing to shout about, but then megahertz don't matter much anymore, AMD and Intel tell us.

The 5160 clocks at 3GHz, the 5150 at 2.66GHz, the 5140 at 2.33GHz, the 5130 at 2GHz, the 5120 at 1.86GHz and the 5110 at 1.6GHz.

The price cashcade when you buy loads of these is $850, $700, $470, $330, $270 and $230.

It's not entirely clear yet what the socketing for the chips will be. ยต
