SOFTWARE GIANT Microsoft is planning to release a server version of its Longhorn operating system for home users.

Windows Server Senior Vice President Bob Muglia hint an online chat group that a home server version of Windows was being developed.

According to eWeek, the answer was in response to a chat participant as to whether Vole might consider building a home server as a way of united all the different media content and multiple machines in everyone's home.

Muglia also hinted that a beta version of Longhorn server will be released about the same time as the Longhorn beta is released.

But if you are waiting for Longhorn to unite your fridge with your stereo, or want to see what a blue screen of death looks like on your hot water system, you might be in for a long wait. The latest release date for Longhorn server is 2007.
