ATI will struggle to catch up with Nvidia

Better late than never to the SLI ball...

IT TOOK NVIDIA three years to put SLI together and I cannot wait to see how much time ATI will need to make its answer to that. Don't think that ATI just started to play with SLI. It has been doing its stuff for some months now but still Nvidia has quite a lead.

If you think about it, Nvidia continued to work on this marchitecture almost from the time it acquired 3DFX as boffins knew that people liked that idea.

Nvidia even managed to get WHQL for its SLI drivers but as you know not even the benchmarks are out as Nvidia advised reviewers to hold their breath till they got Nforce 4 SLI motherboards. Last time we checked, Nvidia said two weeks, exactly two weeks ago.

Whatever happens, Nvidia is readier than ATI, and has chipset, graphic cards and drivers ready, already. ATI has still to get to that point.

ATI has one advantage. It will be able to offer its SLI marchitecture for Intel lovers and I guess that Dell will make one of its XPS machines with ATI SLI, unless it chooses to go for an AMD/Nforce 4 answer, of course.

ATI is late but it will be ready for the SLI wars, although we suspect the earliest it can pull a rabbit out of its bag in Q2 2005, if it's lucky. µ
